Getting REAL about my TUPPERWARE BUSINESS: the money, the time, and the why
GETTING REAL ABOUT MY TUPPERWARE BUSINESS: THE MONEY, THE TIME, AND THEY WHY
It is my goal to share up front and practical information with you, so if joining Tupperware, or other direct sales businesses is something you're interested in, you can make an educated decision. Remember though, EVERYONE'S business is different. And it is definitely a matter of WHAT YOU PUT IN, YOU GET OUT. But I realize that isn't very helpful for someone who has never tried direct sales.. HOW MUCH DO I ACTUALLY HAVE TO PUT IN?? and DO I GET SOMETHING OUT RIGHT AWAY?
Here is my attempt to answer some of those questions from MY experiences selling Tupperware for 3 years. I am going to answer questions in an interview format because I hope to interview other people in the business too, so we all can learn!
So.. here we go!
What is your title? I am a Director. Everyone who joins Tupperware enters in as a consultant, when you step up to leadership and earning commissions on your unit or team sales, the first step is a manager (2% of team sales) then star manager (3% of team sales), then executive manager (4% of team sales), and next step is director (6% of team sales at the $10,000 level). As a director, I also have a chance of making 8% of my teams commissionable sales if my team hits $20,000. As you promote directors under you, you then start building an organization, and making 8.5% off of any directors team in your organization. This is how you start to making MORE money and a bigger IMPACT in this business.
Why did you join? I wanted the serving center and didn't want to pay $45 for it.. so I had a party. After using the boat loads of free product I got, I was having so much fun sharing about it on social media and my blog, I decided to give it a try. I didn't really understand the opportunities or what was available when I joined, and definitely didn't plan on this even being a "thing" in my life. Once I went to a few of the trainings that Michelle and Heidi offered, I heard the words FREE TRIP TO HAWAII and I was hooked. I needed to earn that and I was determined to do anything I could to get there.
If you are a leader, what was your journey to get there? How long did it take you to move up and what did that journey look like for you?
I joined Tupperware in October 2015, and didn't decide I wanted leadership or something more until 2017. I had my first team member join me in January of 2017, but things didn't start really happening for me until the end of 2017. I had a goal to hit $10,000 in personal sales in October and that catapulted me in the director in qualifications program (a three month program to qualify for the director title).
Stepped up to Manager: April, May, June, July, and August of 2017
Star Manager: September and October 2017
Executive Manager: November and December of 2017
Director: January to current
What is the biggest monthly paycheck you ever earned? I became a Director in January of 2018 and earned my biggest paycheck to date: $2,295 + personal commission ($742.58) Total=$3,038.10
What did you make last month? Personal commissions: $283.90
Team commissions: $688.88 + my car (could be $325 in cash)
Total: $972.78 + car ($325) = $1,297.78
What does that look like in personal sales and team sales?
Team sales: $14,541.86
Personal sales: $1,135.61
What is your average monthly income? $1,295.75 (based on the last 8 months)
What other things have you earned? I drive a logo'ed Tupperware car (if I had taken the cash option it is $325 a month). Tax, title, license, registration and insurance are paid for, I cover gas and oil changes.
Dave and I are taking a trip for 2 to Hawaii for 5 days on March 6, all expenses paid.
What are you working towards now? My short term goal is to promote a director so that I become a Star Director and get to go to Leadership Summit next February. Long term goal is to promote 2 directors, and earn the $22,000 cash bonus.
What motivates you? On a weekly basis, the incentives that Tupperware puts out there of exclusive products we have the opportunity to earn. I am also motivated by big paychecks and FREE TRIPS. I love working this business around my family and getting rewarded for something I love to do! Most of all, my team. We are a group of amazing, smart, multi-talented women sharing the things we love with others!
How much time do you spend on your business on average per week? This one is a hard one. I spend a lot of time communicating with my team and customers, but honestly, I LOVE IT. I could work all the time. I do spend late nights writing emails, working on invites and team things, and zooming. On average I am gone from the house 1-2 nights per week for events, parties or team gatherings, but during my busy months (Sept, Oct it could be 2-3 nights/week). I do a lot of my business from home, but definitely the in person connections when I'm out and about and partying are what keep my business going. I work my business in the down times of the day (like doing invitations when I'm riding in the car).
What does a typical day look like for you? I wake up whenever I want to, or whenever Holtan wants to. On Mondays and Wednesdays I have Tupperware leader calls from 9-10 am, and Holtan usually goes to my in laws. I then work on communicating with team and also work the books for Natural Plus. Holtan comes home mid afternoon, and we spend some time playing, picking up the house or being outside. Some evenings I party or go to events, and some evenings I spend at home with my boys. Then when Holtan goes to bed, I sometimes log on for calls, facebook parties, or work, or just spend time with Dave. I love that every day is different and I get to choose what I do that day. I am in complete control of my schedule and only pick the days I want to party based on my family's schedule.
What do you think is the one thing that is most important for you to do for your business on a daily/weekly basis? I reach out to lots of people and make connections. I try to make 3 phone calls a day. I am constantly trying to share valuable content on social media, but really trying to foster those relationships off line as well.
What advice do you have for someone just starting out on this journey?
Just keep going. It takes time. It doesn't happen over night and it isn't without a lot of hard work. This business is simple... it's not easy, but it is simple.
