succulents + friends

Several months ago, my friend Loni approached me about hosting a group of her friends out at the nursery to plant succulents. This is right up my alley, and exactly the kind of thing I want to add to the nursery. We decided fall would be best, and for the past few months, I experimented with painting terra cotta pots with acrylic paint (#fail) and then just potting succulents in glass containers picked up at thrift stores.

These types of gatherings never disappoint, and this one was one of my favorites, and not just because they shared their snacks with me. ;)

Everyone got to pick out a pot and a plant. We layered the pots with some small river rock to help with water drainage, since succulents don't like to be wet, and none of the pots have drainage holes. Then we gently roughed up the roots, added more potting soil if needed and potted the succulents into their new homes.

The most fun was seeing how these ladies decorated their succulents after they put them in pots. There were several different kinds of rocks to place on the top of the soil, and also little chalkboard signs and burlap ribbon. I was amazed at the words and sayings and the creativity.

I had several pots left, so I potted them up, and a few of the ladies that were left helped me decorate them. They are for sale over on Facebook, here.

If this is something you are interested in, you're in luck. I'm hosting 2 events here at Natural Plus Nursery, one on Tuesday, October 11, and another on Monday, October 17!
