north iowa social media breakfast. I want to take some time to talk up a pretty awesome thing happening here in North Iowa.

The fourth Wednesday of every month, in the Heritage Room at First Citizens Bank from 8:30 to 10 am, a group of ready-to-learn people talk all things social media. The group is open to anyone, you just have to have an interest in learning about social media.

Social media is quickly becoming the way of the world. Many people are resisting it, refusing to get Facebook, or some other social app, but what many don't realize, is this is how our younger generation is growing up. They know nothing different, and if we are going to relate to them, I think it's important to at least have a basic understanding of social media (and it's power!). But it isn't just for the younger generation. As a business owner, I find it to be a very powerful marketing tool, and it's {mostly} free!

One of my first lessons on the power of social media was a little over a year ago, when the North Iowa Blogger group used twitter to talk to Delta  to get our own Bethann home for our friend Amy's funeral. Delta would not have known about Bethann's predicament, and the tweets that were coming from her friends in North Iowa helped bring the delays to their attention. Delta was given the opportunity to help out, and they did, all because of twitter.

I have learned a lot at social media breakfast. The open discussion about all things social media is casual, yet informative and always beneficial.

You don't have to own a business or be an entrepreneur, heck you don't even have to have a job. You just have to have an interest in learning about social media. And this is the place to do it.

Social Media Breakfast.

Hope to see you there!
