Garden 2015: Ed. 4

IMG_0218_2 I did a post a few months back about "Healing Gardens" and committed to making a healing garden in my yard. As I was working in my garden today, alone with my thoughts planting my pepper plants, I realized that my vegetable garden is my healing garden (I don't know why I never realized this before!)

When I was pregnant, I was not sure I was going to be able to have a garden at all this year. I was due in June, so was planning to be 9 months pregnant during our busiest season of the year and during prime garden planting time. And I knew after the baby, I wouldn't have time to weed and take care of a garden. I didn't have high hopes for a garden in 2015.

After giving birth to Baby David, I remember telling Dave, I'm going to have an awesome vegetable garden this year. I didn't think I was going to have time this year, but now I will have more time. And I'm going to make it awesome.

At first I felt guilty for thinking this. Obviously, I would give anything to still be pregnant. I would trade my garden for even one more day with him. But now, that I'm able to be in my garden, I know its going to be part of my healing. Its going to be my version of a healing garden.

I'm putting more time and effort into my garden this year than I have ever before. I planned for weeks. I've filled my sketch pad with brainstorms and sketches of plans. Dave is determined to make it a comforting and great place for me to spend my time (he's building me a fence!)

Last week we planted asparagus, raspberries, strawberries, leafy greens, all my herbs, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, carrots, lettuce strip, and onions.

This week, I got my cucumbers, peas, and beans planted. A few of the leafy greens I planted are already starting to pop up!

Really looking forward to eating veggies out of my yard again!
