6 Ways to Start Living a Slow Down Life

6 Ways to Start Living a Slow Down Life

I believe in living slow. Soaking up each moment, and noticing what’s happening around you and within you. It’s my passion, my life’s work, and something I practice daily. I want that for you too. So here are 6 ways to start living the slow down life.

1. Live on your own time.

Decide that you are not going to be in a rush for anyone else. Most times when I have anxiety about being late to something or getting something done on time, it’s anxiety that I’m putting on myself, trying not to disappoint someone else (because I’ve convinced myself that they are going to be upset).

I’m done living this way. I now live on my own time, I take care of me, and I let go of what I think other people are thinking of me.

2. Treat every moment as an opportunity to create the most pleasurable sensory moment of your whole life

Take a quick pause…

How could you easily make this moment more pleasurable—more of a sensory experience?

Examples: take your shoes (and socks) off and let your bare feet feel the floor or ground beneath you, put on a soft cozy sweater, take a sip of a delicious flavorful beverage (hot tea is always a good choice!). Light a candle or some incense and pause to really smell the goodness.

We have an opportunity in every moment to make it the best moment in our lives. So what are you noticing, and how are you making simple quick shifts to make it as pleasurable and sensory filled as possible?

3. Put your phone down.. and back away slowly.

It’s a lot easier to live the slow down life when you’re not being bombarded with messaging that encourages hustle and productivity . Our phones are like our own personalized advertising machines… the things we see on it are catered to our likes and wants, and we are targeted with ads that are telling us that more is better.

If you want to create your life based on what feels good for YOU, I suggest lightening up on the people you’re following on socials and just getting more present in your own life. It’s amazing to be inspired, but not at the detriment of you being completely in your own power and energy.

4. Make it a habit to check in with your body

We spend most of our lives in our heads, thinking about the past, thinking about the future, worrying about both. The more you spend time actually being in your body— through meditation, visualization, movement, dance, being nature, or any other way you spend time in your body, the more present you are —and slowed down to actually enjoy your life

5. Check your beliefs that are limiting you

What we believe about ourselves and our world around us absolutely affects the life we are living.

What kind of rules have you been making for yourself. If there another way of thinking?

I have been really rigid with my work/life boundaries… however, now that I’m flowing more with my life when I’m relaxed more of the time, my creativity is on 🔥 fire. This is the way I want to live all of the time. Where work feels like play. As I’m writing this, I’m in complete flow, and it’s because I’ve made the space in my life for that. I’ve allowed myslef to think and be, without the demands of others.

6. No mo’ FOMO  (No more “fear of missing out”)

When you live in the mode of always wondering if you’re missing out on an opportunity or something else going on you absolutely are missing out on something, and it’s the moment and thing that is right in front of you, happening to you.

Committing to not living in this space frees you up to enjoy every moment as it comes and as it is.

They are simple, not easy.

These 6 ways to start living your slow down life are simple, but not always easy. Living this way goes against what many of us were taught and how most of us are living. It takes courage to follow through with these simple suggestions, but when you do, you’ll see the reward is worth it. You’ll start experiencing your life from a new perspective, and enjoy each moment more fully.
