6 Tips for Feeling Content
6 Tips for Feeling Content
Lately I’ve been feeling content. It’s a good feeling, and not something I feel all the time. In fact, I feel like I’m prone to anxiety and feeling high highs and low lows, especially in the winter time. While some of my contentedness may be due to the time of year (coming off summer with longer days and more Vitamin D) I think there are some things I’ve been doing that have helped me feel this contentment.
Cut caffeine. Early on in this pregnancy, I was struggling with sleep, so I decided to completely cut out the caffeine I was drinking. I was already limiting it to just the mornings, and 1-2 cups of coffee, but after not drinking caffeine for months, I am certain that my anxiety is less.
Slow down. This time of year our business begins to slow down a bit from the craziness of spring and summer, and it is a welcomed slow down. I’ve also had the opportunity to spend my days with Holtan, just hanging out, and taking that time away from work is doing wonders. I’ve made time for rest, and time for play, and even time to just do nothing.
Stop trying to do it ALL. I am prone to overdoing it. I have a million ideas and dreams, and want to do all of them. I start something, then get distracted by something else, and end up trying to make 8 of my dreams a reality all at the same time. Cue burn out. This season of life, with the slow down, I’ve decided to let go of some of those things (like writing my book, social media at times, blogging) and do the bare minimum (ie get my Natural Plus work done and that’s it)
Gratitude. Having an attitude of gratitude will change your life. When I’m feeling down, or sorry for myself, I give myself a check, is it really that bad? And can you name something good from the situation. I can always find good, and it really is easy to feel so grateful for what my life is.
Doing good for others. As soon as I shift the focus from how I’m feeling about things, and focus on making someone else’s life better, I’m immediately taken to a place of content. I love surprising friends with gifts, but doing good for others doesn’t have to cost money. It could be a simple text to someone lifting them up, telling them they are doing great, or a little message on social media. Sometimes its the simple things that mean the most.
Deciding to be ok with where we are at right now. This is really important to me. As mentioned in #3, I really like to to DO IT ALL. But right now in my life, the thing I want to do the most is be a mom to Holtan and bring one more healthy baby in to this world to make our family complete. That is my priority. So while we aren’t running a multi-million dollar business, I’m not receiving any awards for my achievements, and I’m not making history (or maybe I am and don’t know it) I am content with where I’m at right now. What we’re doing is enough and we definitely have enough. Family is priority and the most important thing, and that is enough.
