why we need to rest

Rest is self care.

Rest is part of self-care that many of us don’t make time for. By rest, I don’t mean sleep.

I mean those times when you’re relaxed, at peace, and simply still.

Rest is important for our brains and bodies to rejuvenate, though many of us don’t make time in our schedules for rest. I think this is a huge mistake and can lead us towards disease.

The world we live in is fast paced and over stimulating.

Pushing our bodies and minds to the limits, day after day can wear them down. Incorporating pockets of rest and play are vital for our overall well being.

I asked my friends on Facebook what rest meant to them, and here were their answers:

take a rest- relax for a bit

relaxation- quiet moments

peace, calm, a break

recharge + recenter

place of surrender- absence from worry, fear and doubt

be still, present and in the moment

in my bed alone

a day away from my phone and computer

quiet time without distraction

unplugged, tuned in. No schedule

Surrender.

Come as you are.

Let + Flow

state of complete relaxation

Rest means something different to everyone.

I love reading this list of what rest means to different people. It helps me find a way to look at rest and really understand what it should mean to me in my life.

What is your definition of rest?

And are you seeing that show up in your day to day life?
