Living life in FLOW
Recently I’ve noticed my life happening more and more in FLOW, and in this state I am finding the most fulfilling and enjoyable moments.
But what is flow?
For me, its when I let go of control of what I think should be happening, and let things unfold as they will.
Can you break that down?
I’m a planner. I like to have a plan for how things are going to work out. Schedules are really important to me. But creating pockets of time in your calendar where there isn’t a schedule is imperative to allow the great things to happen in your life.
Schedule is important, but so is not having one.
I believe in the need to be proactive, to make things happen in order to ensure things get done, or you get that time off. But on the flip side, I know that having time with no schedule is very important.
You must let go of expectations and say no.
I’ve made an effort to stop putting so much pressure on myself to go to every social event, or follow through with all of the invitations for get-togethers we have. We can’t do it all, especially with little kids, and I’ve stopped trying.
Do what feels good.
This past weekend was a holiday weekend, and we had several celebrations that we were invited to. Instead of committing to attend these gatherings, we decided to just go with the flow. To move from moment to moment based on what feels good.
And the result?
We had the best weekend full of time with each other, time doing things we love, and time outside and on the water. This wouldn’t have happened had I reverted to “control freak” Mary and been rigid with the obligations to attend the parties we were invited to.
Flow happens when you lighten up.
My life isn’t always in a state of “flow.” But the moments when it is, that’s where the magic happens, the memories are being made, and I feel more like myself.
The more I adapt my own teachings to lighten up, take things less seriously, and literally “go with the flow,” the more I enjoy.
