I recently read the book"Carrots love Tomatoes"--a guide to companion planting in your garden. I didn't read it word for word, but I did pull lots of good information about what plants like other plants. Reading all this information got me kind of excited for my garden next year...Already...

So in true Mary form, I made a list of all the fruits and veggies I want to try next year. I have big plans to do some research on these plants (aka when they grow best, when they should be started and what varieties are best for our region).

Watermelon Cantaloupe Cauliflower Broccoli Brussel sprouts Green beans Peas Carrots Beets Tomatoes (cherry) Cucumbers Swiss chard Lettuce Spinach Kale Asparagus Strawberries Raspberries Peppers: bell and hot Squashes: butternut, spaghetti Onions Garlic

Herbs: basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, lavendar, dill, sage, lemongrass

We are also hoping to plant a little "orchard" out here.  We have a few big apple trees, but I would like to try a pear tree, and attempt to grow grapes (just planted some on the south side of the pump house so we'll see).

Every year I learn more and more about my garden and hope to learn about year round gardening (reading another book on that right now--update to follow).

Has anyone started planning their garden for next year?  Any tips for a newbie like me?
